Just realised today that PowerISO (http://www.poweriso.com/download.htm) is available for Linux and its free too. I have a weird feeling of liberation nowadays though i have been using Linux for more than two years now.
The manual goes like this
PowerISO Copyright(C) 2004-2008 PowerISO Computing, Inc
Type poweriso -? for help
list <image file> <directory> List files and directories in image file.
Example: List all files and directories in root direcory of /home/sam/test.iso .
Command: poweriso list /home/sam/test.iso / -r
extract <image file> <dir/file name> Extract files/directories from image file.
Example: Extract all files and directories in root direcory of /home/sam/test.iso
to /home/sam/test recursively. Command: poweriso extract /home/sam/test.iso / -od /home/sam/test
convert <image file> Convert image file to other format.
Example: Convert /home/sam/test.daa to standard iso file
Command: poweriso convert /home/sam/test.daa -o /home/sam/test.iso -ot iso
Do take note of the “/” before -od and -r. It throws a weird “Unrecognized parameter:”
With Feisty Fawn due this 19th, the stage is all set for the next player to show its trick. Strange enough, the next release of Ubuntu is named Gutsy Gibbon. A treat for the code monkeys, i guess.
Unfortunately, Gutsy will not be an LTS (Long term support) release. This is Mark’s letter to the community.
(FYI : i never knew that zeroconf is configured by default in Feisty Fawn. Meaning, file-sharing will now be a breeze)
The French Parliament looks to be the next big Ubuntu switcher according to reports. Recently the Parliament produced an official government report that recommended the use of free software over proprietary software.
This will amount to 1,154 new computers running Ubuntu prior to the start of the next session which occurs in June 2007.
Very cool comparison of Vista Aero and Ubuntu. If you really think that this is just another Beryl propaganda, you need to check this video. (My personal favourite comes at 3 min 11 sec).
Ever imagined your personal Operating System being carried along with you, with all your files, email, personal settings and other software utilities. At PenDriveLinux, they exactly do this.
They say “USB Linux installation enables you to run the Linux operating system on any computer that can boot from a USB flash device. This allows you to bring your operating system, files, e-mail, personal settings, favorites and more with you. It’s like having your own personal operating system you can carry in your pocket.”
They also give tutorials on how to boot Ubuntu, Knoppix and a few other distros of Linux from your USB drive.
Earlier last year, Kerala opened the doors of its schools to Linux. Now its the turn of its big neighbour, Tamil Nadu to choose Linux over Windows.
The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), which is the government owned entity that brings IT-enabling services to the state has chosen Open Source solutions over Windows-based solutions.
ELCOT decided in favor of open-source software because of its lower cost than proprietary software from Microsoft Corp. and other vendors, C.Umashankar, managing director of ELCOT, said Wednesday. Open-source software also provides better ease of operation and higher security, he added.
Further, this could be just what is required for the state government to choose Linux as well. ELCOT will migrate to Linux at the server and the desktop levels. Something tells me they might choose Ubuntu for their desktop. Last year, the Ubuntu India mailing list saw some activity and the name ELCOT turned up back then too.
